How long are Antimicrobial products effective for?

Antimicrobial efficacy is sometimes claimed by manufacturers because of the presence of naturally antimicrobial volatile chemicals in the finished product. These volatiles tend to dissipate with time and their antimicrobial effect will be lost from the product. Certain biocides incorporated into products to specifically confer antimicrobial efficacy will also dissipate with time because of their chemical nature. Sustained antimicrobial efficacy in a treated product is possible by the appropriate choice of biocide.

BioCote® antimicrobial silver technology is incorporated into the Bioclad PVC hygienic wall cladding panels during manufacture. Because ionic silver, the active antimicrobial agent in BioCote® does not dissipate from the treated product, antimicrobial efficacy can be expected to be sustained for the lifetime of the product. BioCote® silver antimicrobial technology. Because BioCote® silver technology is antimicrobial is has been shown effective again a wide range of bacteria, including MRSA, E. coli, Campylobacter, Salmonella, Listeria and Pseudomonas as well as moulds and yeasts.

In addition, BioCote® silver antimicrobial technology has been shown to be bactericidal – that is its action results in the death of contaminating microorganisms. In comparison, bacteriostatic antimicrobials render microorganisms unable to grow and do not necessarily render them non-infectious.
