The impact resistance of hygienic wall cladding compared to tiles

There are so many benefits associated with installing hygienic wall cladding in a professional environment. In particular, compared to tiles, the right cladding solution can save businesses time and money long term.

In previous blogs, we have discussed how wall cladding can prove to be more effective than tiles in bathrooms and kitchen restaurants. Another advantage of adopting a cladding solution is its impact resistance, which applies to all businesses.

In particular, BioClad’s range of wall cladding has been tested and proven to be more effective than standard solutions.

ISO Standard Test for hygienic wall cladding

ISO standard tests were undertaken to demonstrate hygienic wall cladding’s superior impact resistance compared to the resistance provided by ceramic tiles. Our video explains what occurred in the test below:

As the footage summarises, an ISO standard test was conducted using a 322g steel ball (BS EN 438), which was dropped from various heights onto the flat surface, joint, edge and corner of both tiles and cladding panels.

There was visible damage sustained to the tile from 25 millimetres as opposed to the PVC cladding which required a minimum drop of 3,500 millimetres to create any visual damage to the sheet.

This, of course, reinforces how hygienic wall cladding acts as a stronger, more durable solution for professional environments than ceramic tiles.

Other benefits of hygienic wall cladding compared to ceramic tiles

As well as proven impact resistance, hygienic wall cladding poses a number of other benefits for businesses in several professional industries, including:

  • Cheaper to install and maintain
  • Far fewer joints meaning less chance of water damage
  • Flexibility to match substrate movement with no expansion joints required
  • A rapid installation process capable of covering up to 250 meters per day
  • No Grout to replace
  • 100% recyclable

BioClad’s PVC hygienic wall cladding

BioClad’s PVC wall cladding is resistant to a wide variety of shocks, as well as offering protection against a wide range of chemicals including alkalis, acids and alcohols. It also has a powerful resistance to salt air and aggressive industrial environments.

Minimal water absorption means that steam cleaning to a maximum temperature of 60°C and power hosing will also have no effect. The material used in our PVC cladding has obtained a Fire rating “Class 1” BS 476 Part 7 1971 “Surface Spread of Flame”.

Our wall cladding also comes with a 20-year warranty. For more information, please click here.
