Wimbledon 2019: BioClad serve up an ace with Hygienic Wall Cladding

BioClad played a key role in the installation of four kitchens at the historic Wimbledon Club in London this year.

Our antimicrobial wall cladding was specified for the multi-million-pound project to develop four commercial kitchens at SW19 to serve the thousands of guests, players, and VIPs who attend The Championships each year.

Working alongside a number of contractors, we were heavily involved in the refurbishment of the kitchen and food preparation areas, where over 1000m2 of cladding was installed in Spring of this year.

We are proud to have taken a huge step towards our goal of providing hygienic cladding solutions for some of the leading hospitality brands in the UK and worldwide. Our previous projects in this field include Five Guys, Byron Burger and Harrogate Spring Water.

Speaking on being involved in the kitchen installations, our Managing Director Lindsay McKenzie said: “We are honoured to have been involved in such a significant project for one of the biggest sporting events in the country, if not the world. Our aim at BioClad is to provide superior hygienic environments for all, so to have one of our products specified to serve thousands of guests for such a major occasion is fantastic.”

Hygienic wall cladding: keeping players and guests safe at Wimbledon 2019

A key date in the calendar for any tennis enthusiast, Wimbledon has become the largest tennis tournament in the world since it was founded in 1877. This year’s event welcomes back some of the greatest players ever to play the game including Serena Williams, Roger Federer and of course, Andy Murray.

More than 470,000 people are expected to attend The Championships in 2019, and official figures from 2018 revealed that over 17,000 portions of fish and chips, 303,000 glasses of Pimms and 166,000 portions of the now iconic strawberries and cream were served over a period of 14 days last year, highlighting the importance of hospitality and hygiene to the event.

Strawberries for Wimbledon are picked at 4.00am, collected from the packing plant at 9.00am and delivered to the Club for inspection and hulling. They are then enjoyed by guests on the same day.

Other interesting figures and yearly averages from Wimbledon include:

  • 790 players taking part
  • Over 50,000 plants supplied
  • 21,917 bottles of champagne sold claire code nation
  • 307,277 cups of tea and coffee served

Our involvement with Wimbledon serves as further proof that BioClad’s versatile range of products are leading the way in creating hygienic spaces for leading brands and events on the national stage.
